People Power for Florida and Coalition Partners Register Over 350 Student Voters During 5th Annual Fall “Dorm Storms”
FLORIDA – People Power for Florida (PPFF), in partnership with five fellow youth-led organizations, Youth Action Fund, GenCLEO, Engage Florida, SEE Alliance, and PRISM, successfully concluded its Fall “Dorm Storm” voter registration campaign, reaching over 350 students across Florida as they moved into campus housing from August 18–24.
This annual initiative focuses on one of the most important moments for student voter engagement: campus move-in. As thousands of students begin a new semester, many have not yet registered to vote or updated their voter registration to reflect their new campus address. By bringing voter registration directly to residence halls, PPFF and its partners help remove those barriers and ensure students are prepared to participate in the democratic processes ahead of the critical 2026 midterm elections.
“Connecting with newly arriving college students who are eager to register, vote, and make their voices heard was truly inspiring,” stated Margaret Clark, a volunteer from Indivisible Tallahassee, “When young people step into civic life and recognize the power of their voices, it gives me great hope for the future. Our democracy is stronger when the next generation is engaged, informed, and ready to participate.”
This Fall’s effort brought together 34 volunteers across five campuses: Florida State University, University of Central Florida, University of South Florida, Florida Atlantic University, and Florida International University. Together, volunteers helped more than 350 new voters register and request their vote-by-mail ballots ahead of the November election.
“I think it’s important for organizations like ours to come together to increase voter registration while also being an outlet for voter education. Many students may be registered, but there’s so many more details like election dates, polling locations, vote by mail ballot requests, and accessibility that voters need to know beyond just registration,” said Victoria Shinker, Legislative Organizer for Florida Youth Action Fund. “Our role at the Youth Action Fund is to make sure that young voters voices’ go further than just their vote, but through their ideas, collaborations, and determination for the future of Florida.”
By partnering with youth-led organizations across the state, PPFF continues to expand its outreach to young Floridians and make civic participation more accessible for students where they live, learn, and build their communities.
