People Power for Florida Engages Over 200 Student Voters Across Three Campuses for National Voter Registration Day
FLORIDA – On September 15, People Power for Florida (PPFF) celebrated National Voter Registration Day (NVRD) by bringing voter registration and civic engagement directly to students at the University of South Florida, University of Central Florida, and Florida State University.
This year, PPFF spoke to thousands of students on campuses across the state, had nearly 100 eligible voters register or update their information on campus, and over a hundred more check their voter registration status.
“For the 5th year in a row, People Power for Florida hosted successful events on campuses across the state to connect Florida students with voter registration,” said State Director Juan Ardila. “These large-scale efforts are important to remind people about upcoming elections on a civic holiday and to ensure that young people are able to make their voices heard.”
National Voter Registration Day is an annual nationwide effort that encourages Americans to register, check their voter registration status, and plan to participate in upcoming elections. This year, thousands of organizations across the country participated in the September 15th effort ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
“By bringing the conversation about voting directly to the students, it gives us a unique opportunity to confront them about their role in not only national, but local elections. The student voice is so powerful, and registering students to vote is the first step in fostering a culture that encourages students to participate in elections,” said Bella Commorato, the Central Florida lead organizer for PPFF. “Voting can be daunting for some students, but most hesitation comes from a lack of information. By being out on National Voter Registration Day, I was happy to see the impact firsthand and have the opportunity to present election information to students in a straightforward manner.”
