People Power for Florida and Coalition Partners Register Over 150 Student Voters During Statewide Campus “Dorm Storms”

FLORIDA – During the week of June 20th through June 28th, People Power for Florida (PPFF) alongside four other youth-led organizations, SEE Alliance, Engage Florida, Youth Action Fund, and GenCLEO, hosted Summer B Voter Registration “Dorm Storms” at college campuses across the state, helping students register to vote as they moved into campus housing.

Every year, thousands of Florida college students move into campus housing without updating their voter registration address or registering to vote altogether, creating unnecessary barriers to participating in elections. PPFF's annual Dorm Storms initiative is designed to meet students where they are, making voter registration accessible by ensuring they have the tools they need to make their voices heard ahead of the critical 2026 midterm elections.

“Every conversation we have with a student as they move into their dorm rooms is an opportunity to empower the next generation of voters,” said Juan Ardila, State Organizing Director of People Power for Florida. “Dorm storms consistently prove that meeting students where they are is one of the most effective ways to increase civic participation on campus.”

Across five college campuses -- the University of Central Florida, Florida State University, Florida International University, and both Tampa and St. Petersburg campuses of the University of South Florida -- sixteen volunteers worked together to register over 150 new voters and assist 10 voters in requesting vote-by-mail ballots.
